If Reno-Tahoe International Airport doesn’t fit your travel plans, here are a few alternative airports which might have more flight availability and potentially lower fares. These are also great options if you want to explore Northern California before heading to Tahoe.
- Sacramento International Airport (SMF) – Located about 120 miles west of Lake Tahoe, SMF is a larger airport with more flight options. The drive takes about 2 hours and follows scenic mountain highways.
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO) – If you're coming from an international destination or need a larger airport, SFO is about 200 miles from Lake Tahoe (a 3.5 to 4-hour drive).
- Oakland International Airport (OAK) – Another Bay Area option, about 190 miles from Lake Tahoe with a similar drive time as SFO.
- San Jose International Airport (SJC) – Located 190 miles away, SJC is a good choice for travelers coming from the Silicon Valley area.
